Lars Andersen: Recreating Comanche Archery
Comanche archer were the only archers in history who could easily defeat firearms, but how did they do archery?
Joe Rogan Experience suggested they did archery like me, but this is wrong!
Comanche archery is a completely different and partially forgotten method.
There are many descriptions that they were incredibly good and very very fast, but no known method with the arrow on the left and arrows held in bow hand, is as fast as the Arabic method I usually use, where I only use one movement for each arrow.
So something was missing?
Along with Dave Mead I started researching and testing.
Eric Smith has been kind to tell his greatgrandfather’s experience of actually being shot after with arrows by Comanche which are written down and therefore confirm that they actually had 5 arrows in the air at the same time, when they were at war, and not just as games or the like.
And a number of other descriptions are known of how extremely fast they shot arrows.
It is 150 years since this extreme horse archery war method was used in reality, so much knowledge has been lost
We talked to a lot of people including Comanche people for trying to recreate this archery.
With many experiments with all sorts of variation, no one was near fast enough because there were several movements needed for each arrow.
I ended up, if the arrow is placed horizontally in the bow hand before or while shooting then you can shoot in one motion and it works really well and also on horseback.
And if you do not use the arrows, they can easily be brought back in front of the bow in one movement
Of course, it is not possible to know whether this method is the real Comanche method but it works well and fits with equipment and works well on horseback and can do everything described in historical sources.
It is also impossible to know if there is only one Comanche archery method, or several different.
Eric Smith told me he thinks so good archers they could both shot right and left around the bow and could use several methods, and this I think too.
But regardless of history, it’s a really cool and fun way to do archery
as other archers should try too and it is very easy to learn!!

Lars Andersen: Epic Archery
The most amazing archery ever, is described in the Sanskrit epics of ancient India: Mahabharata.
Lars Andersen tries to perform these tricks.
Of course this is not historical archery, but Mahabharata is clearly written by people with great knowledge about archery and knowledge about real historical archery heroes.
Something described may in one way originate in real events that are exaggerated a lot.
I has been trying for several years if these described tricks can be performed in reality
Shoot multiple arrows at the same time:

Whether it’s historical reality can be discussed, it can be done but has a lot of problems
If 3 arrows are shot at the same time, it takes a long time to make the arrows clear, they do not have much power and not high accuracy.
3 arrows shot quickly after each other, can be done faster far more precisely and with very high power.
Perhaps it’s extreme fast shooting that is seen as shooting simultaneous arrows?
Hit a rotating fish in the eye by looking at a reflection:
I tried and it was surprisingly easier than expected
The arrow could certainly have hit more in the middle of the eye, but since the purpose was only to show it could be done so it was not done again.
Hit different things in the air are often described in mahabharata
sword arrows wagon wheel etc.

I had been training hard for years before I even started thinking about this, so do not try yourself.
Hit a machete so it stops:
It could be done but is so unpleasant that I never do it again.
Hit an arrow in the air:
When I first read about this he thought it was impossible, and never anything that was done in history.
But now I has done so many times the last year, so it may be considered whether there may also have been a few Indian historical super archers who have learned the same.
But even if some have, it still very doubtful whether it has been practically applicable as anything but choice for performance trick archery.

Many ask about equipment:
I always build my arrows myself, not modern standard arrows
but different reproductions of historical arrows.

Criticism is good
But i remove hateful not funny comments.
I also remove negative and incorrect comments from people who think themselves to be archery experts, but do not know history, physical laws etc..
