Thai police presented a haul of counterfeit viagra and other goods to the media on Tuesday, seized from various locations in Bangkok. \r
The pills often imported from China and India are sold \”under the counter\” and help fuel the city”s notorious sex industry. \r
They”re the right size, shape and colour. Even the packaging looks convincing, but the only thing that”s real about these pills is the potential threat to buyers, police say.\r
Thai police raided stalls and shops in the capital last week after complaints from the public.\r
They seized thousands of boxes of counterfeit viagra, levitra and other sexual stimulants, gels and sprays with an estimated street value of around 16thousand US dollars. \r
According to officials at the Food and Drug Administration, the counterfeit drugs often have far higher doses of the active ingredient than is safe; in the case of some fake viagra, they say, as much as ten times the stated amount. \r
The FDA”s secretarygeneral, Dr. Pipat Yingseree, said such overdoses could kill. \r
There are no figures on how many people die in Thailand each year as a result of taking sex pills but it”s often cited as a factor in sudden deaths, especially of visiting males. \r
As well as the pills, police also seized sex toys, which are illegal in Thailand under obscenity laws. \r
Bangkok has a wellestablished sex industry, serving tourists as well as locals. \r
Some of the stalls and shops raided by police last week were in the Nana district, one of the most notorious red light districts.\r

Dan Barber, MBA: Advantages of Diazepam Buccal Soluble Film Formulation
Currently, diazepam is available as a generic, though its mainstay use in epilepsy has been as an abortive therapy during uncontrolled seizure clusters. Its main formulation is a rectal gel, which has limited use due to it invasiveness and stigma associated with the delivery method.
As well, its oral formulation has varying degrees of absorption which do not do well enough to halt these clusters. Now, however, Aquestive Therapeutics has developed a buccal film solution of the drug, allowing for an instantaneously dissolving film strip to be placed into the mouth as an alternative to the available methods.
In a comparator pharmacokinetic trial, presented at the American Epilepsy Society’s (AES) annual meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, the blood levels from the therapy were shown to be equivalent to not only the required amount, but during both the ictal and periictal stages.
Dan Barber, MBA, the SVP and chief strategy and development officer at Aquestive Therapeutics, sat with NeurologyLive at the meeting to discuss the development of the therapy and the company’s hopes for providing both patients and providers with a more favorable, and still efficacious, option for seizure clusters.
